Hey I’m Steve, a Senior Software Developer and a member of the Development Team here at Jarilo Design. I joined Jarilo back in 2013, and since have been keenly tasked with building and looking after a lot of the technology we provide and use on a daily basis. Whether it be the tailored tools we use to perform eBay bulk edits, the tools we have crafted to allow us to move data from one place to another accurately, or the core themes that we use to build fast and SEO friendly websites.
I also build bespoke plug-ins for WordPress/OpenCart and a number of platforms based on client request, with previous works including custom payment gateway’s, shipping calculators, integration into stock management platforms such as Linnworks, and a bunch of other things that you can’t get off a shelf. I am very proud in my previous track record for being able to provide solutions to problems that seemingly at the time had no answer, and it’s one of the driving forces that keeps me pushing forward here at Jarilo as there is always something new to sink my teeth into, especially in the world of e-commerce.
Before joining Jarilo I worked as a Freelance Software Engineer and Web Developer working in Liverpool. Back in 2013 there was a dry period with a lot of studios having to close their doors due to the internet not growing as fast as everyone expected, and as you can probably expect freelancing was tough too. Jarilo though for some reason was thriving which I found fascinating.
It turned out that their emphasis on helping people get started on eBay with professional designs, and clever tools allowed Jarilo to stand out from the pack, and provide something that you couldn’t get elsewhere in the local area. With this I was really glad to get the opportunity to work at Jarilo, moving to the Wirral last year to make a commitment to the ideals and future plans Jarilo holds.
I became a developer over 20 years ago with an aim to try to make a difference in some way. Although building websites or e-commerce software is not world changing, it can change the life and fortunes for clients with a goal to go out on their own to make something, to provide, or to realise their dreams. Every time I see one of our clients succeed it brings me an inordinate amount of happiness, and it is a driving force that encourages me every day to learn and get better at what I do.
