I joined Jarilo back in 2016 at the start of a very successful apprenticeship, going on to be one of the main members of the eBay team, here I learnt the ropes in coding HTML and CSS as well as honing my graphic design skills with the more experienced members of the team.
After I qualified and became a full member of Jarilo, I made a point to expand my horizons and find other platforms to work on. This led me to working on EKM and Shopify, which have been as challenging as they have been great fun in the time I’ve worked on them! Even more so since we partnered with EKM themselves, sending us lots of interesting clients, allowing me to experiment and find new ways of creating a great user experience on our website designs.
There’s lots more to learn, but I usually come away from a project having done just that!
Some of my favourite designs over the years have been:
- Nu Agane – https://www.nuagane.co.uk/
Car themed stores are some of my favourite to work on. I really like the darker aesthetic to this design as it lets it stick out just that bit more from my others. - Adventure North – http://www.ebaystores.co.uk/adventurenorth
My personal preference lends to sites with big, impactful designs – so that’s what I set out to achieve with Adventure North. The bold yellow and taller banners help this design feel more fleshed out than most eBay stores - Enviromotion – http://www.ebaystores.co.uk/enviromotion
I love working on sites with novel business ideas – that’s exactly what I got with this client. The companies Environmentally Friendly practice opened up for some nice design ideas, branching out to many different brands and products without limitation. - Mower Parts – https://www.mowerpartsales.com/
Challenges are always fun with design so being able to work on a more niche market such as Mower Parts really let me flex my design muscles and work with the client at a close level. We worked out the perfect balance of being flashy and functional with a lovely mobile menu, product page and left-hand category menu so you can always get where you need to be.
More About Me
My main interests outside of Jarilo lie mostly within my guitar and the band I play in. Progression is what keeps me interested for the most part, so having another hobby I can pour time into and see improvements in is really fun.
That goes hand in hand with my band QUEN, who I’ve played with around Liverpool for years, getting gigs at the O2, Zanzibar, Studio 2 and even getting ourselves into the Motor Museum Studio, where the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Bring me the Horizon and OMD have recorded for years. We consist of Drums, Bass, Guitars and Vocals.
While we’ve been at it since we were 15, it’s never quite lost its rush and now that we’re focusing up a little and treating it as a real band, it’s another aspect of my life that I can be really proud of!
Obviously, the graphics skills that I’ve gained at Jarilo have extended to the band as well, with anything visual being handed over to me – including the artwork for our single Sky, which you can find on Spotify!
Other than the Band, I’m kept very busy socialising with friends, going on adventures in the car and adding to my ever-growing game collection!
